KENT, Ohio- Head women's golf coach Lisa Strom has announced the Kent State women's golf team will be participating in The Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program.
The Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program recognizes a member of the U.S. Armed Forces who was killed or disabled while on Active Duty. This season, the Flashes will honor and pay tribute by carrying a marked golf bag to fallen U.S. Army 1st Lt. Ashley I. White-Stumpf.
"We are humbled to be carrying a bag honoring 1st LT Ashley White-Stumpf for the upcoming season," said Strom. "Through the Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program, we look to shine a bright light on what a courageous leader Ashley was. Her unselfish attitude and commitment to each mission give an example to our student-athletes of what it means to put the team ahead of an individual."
White-Stumpf's actions exemplify the highest commitment to duty, honor, and country. A graduate of Marlington High School and Kent State, she sadly left behind her parents, Robert and Deborah, twin sister, Brittany, brother, Josh and husband, Cpt. Jason Stumpf.
The Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program was founded in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, a former F-16 pilot who served three tours in Iraq. This foundation was started to give back to spouses, children and loved ones of soldiers killed or disabled while serving our country. More than 60,000 soldiers have been killed or disabled in the military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. As of January 2015, one-million plus dependents have been adversely affected by multiple deployments and 90 percent do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. Folds of Honor seeks to meet this need by providing annual educational scholarships to the military families of those who have been killed or disabled while on active duty.
At the end of the season, the team will auction off the bag at the Rango Invitational with all proceeds going to the Folds of Honor Foundation.
