Wrestling Set To Compete In Virginia Duals

KENT, OHIO- Wrestling is back on the road this weekend as they head to Hampton, Virginia for the 40th annual Virginia Duals to be held on Friday and Saturday.
ABOUT THE DUALS
The Duals are a "multi-tiered" event that will have colleges from all divisions as well as high schools competing in different tournaments. Kent State will be a part of the National College bracket, consisting of eight Division-I programs: Duke, Fresno State, Maryland, Old Dominion, Penn, Rider and Virginia are all scheduled to compete this weekend alongside Kent State.
The Golden Flashes have drawn the Virginia Cavaliers in the opening dual on Friday morning at 11 a.m. Virginia is ranked #22 in the latest NCAA top-25. The Cavaliers have a trio of wrestlers that are ranked according to the latest InterMat wrestling rankings. Jack Mueller is the #2 wrestler in the nation at 125 pounds and won the Cliff Keen Invite in Vegas earlier this season. Louie Hayes is ranked 18th at 133 pounds and his potential matchup with Tim Rooney is one to watch for on Friday. Jay Aiello is #9 at 197 pounds and is 15-4 on the season as he goes into a potential matchup with Colin McCracken (14-10).
The winner of the dual will advance on to face the winner of Old Dominion and Penn on Saturday afternoon. The loser of the dual will face the loser of ODU and Penn on Friday at 3 p.m. Â On the other side of the bracket, Fresno State takes on Maryland while Duke faces off against Rider. All four opening round matches begin at 11 a.m. on Friday.
ABOUT THE FLASHES
Kent State is coming off a 25-15 victory over the Southern Illinois at Edwardsville Cougars on Tuesday afternoon. Â Both Colin McCracken and Spencer Berthold picked up their first falls of the conference season to help spark the victory. Tomas Gutierrez (125), Tim Rooney (133), Kody Komara (149) and Andrew McNally (174) also picked up victories against the Cougars.

LOOKING AHEAD
Kent State is back at home next weekend for a pair of MAC duals. The Golden Flashes will host the Ohio Bobcats on Friday night at 7 and Missouri on Sunday a 2 p.m.
