CLEVELAND, Ohio – Following his record-setting performance at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, Kent State redshirt senior TJ Lawson has been named MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the second time this year, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Lawson scored a MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships record 5,723 points to repeat as heptathlon champion this past weekend. Lawson placed first in all four events during Friday's opening day of competition and added a first-place finish in pole vault on Saturday.

Lawson has qualified to compete in the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships from March 13-14 in Albuquerque, N.M. He scored a school-record 5,934 points to place fifth at the 2018 national meet.
