
Kent State Track and Field Quartet to Compete at NCAA Indoor Championships Thursday And Friday

Kent State will be represented well at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with four Kent State student-athletes scheduled for competition. The championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas, will be held March 11-13 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. This is a closed event and fans will not be allowed in attendance.

PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
The Golden Flashes' four qualifiers are the most in the Mid-American Conference. On the women's side, junior Gabby Bailey and senior Grace Tennant will compete in the shot put, while freshman Leah Pasqualetti contend for a national title in the pole vault. Senior Jake Wickey will represent the men's team in the weight throw.
Kent State is the only school with multiple competitors in the women's shot, as Gabby Bailey and Grace Tennant enter with No. 12 and No. 14 national rankings, respectively. Bailey punched her ticket with a personal-best throw of 55'-3" to win gold at the MAC Championships on February 27. Tennant was among the Flashes' most consistent performers this season, winning all five shot out competitions during the regular season. Her personal-best throw of 55'-2" came at the Kent State Tune-Up on February 20.
Leah Pasqualetti set the school's indoor pole vault record with a height of 14'-0.50" at the Kent State Tune-Up on February 20 and won her fourth straight competition the following week at the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Pasqualetti is Kent State's first freshman to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships since Dior Delophont in 2013 and enters with a No. 16 national ranking.
Jake Wickey enters ranked fifth in the country after capturing his third MAC weight throw title with a personal-best throw of 73'-8.75". Wickey has won each of his past five competitions in the event and was voted the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Kent State student-athletes are only scheduled for competition on the first two days of the meet. Wickey will kick off the action in the men's weight throw at 7:30 p.m. ET Thursday.
On Friday, Bailey and Tennant will start the day in the women's shot put at 12 p.m. ET. Pasqualetti will conclude the meet for the Flashes in the women's pole vault, which is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET on Friday.
