KENT, Ohio – Head coach Eric Oakley announced that Lexie Handley has joined the Kent State softball program as a volunteer assistant. The 2022 NFCA All-Midwest Region and All-Big Ten selection will work with the Golden Flashes' pitchers.
"We are thrilled to welcome Lexie back home to Northeast Ohio, and to our program," Oakley said. "In talking with Lexie, it's clear she has a passion for teaching student-athletes, and for the growth of softball in this region. After a stellar career, it's great to have Lexie available to our pitching staff to pass on her experiences and help develop skills to help the team achieve its goals."
A Mogadore native, Handley originally attended Akron after a record-setting career at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and was named the 2017 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year after throwing 20 complete games and seven shutouts. She then transferred to Auburn, where she made 53 appearances and won 11 games for the Tigers over three seasons.
After receiving her degree in Nutrition Science, Handley transferred to Ohio State and made an immediate impact for the Buckeyes during the 2022 season. She pitched 24 complete games, the most of any Ohio State pitcher in a single season, won 22 games, and struck out 271 batters, breaking a school record that had stood for 15 years. Handley earned All-NFCA Midwest Region First Team and All-Big Ten Second Team honors during her lone season in Columbus.
Handley recently completed her first season of professional ball, helping Saronno Softball capture the Women's Softball European Cup Winners Cup A and Italian National Championship titles.
