Flashes Head Into Final Round of MAC Championship a Single Stroke Back
4/30/2022 7:16:00 PM | Men's Golf
Naperville, ILL.... The Kent State men's golf team faltered early, but surged through the field on Saturday to finish round two of the Mid-American Conference Championship just one stroke off the leaders in Toledo.
Going into the third and final round on Sunday Kent State will look to make up that difference, and to remain ahead of Eastern Michigan, who sit just two strokes behind the Flashes in third.
The Rockets got off to a strong start on Saturday, jumping Eastern for the top spot and at one point, sitting as many as 17 strokes ahead of Kent State, but the Flashes would battle back to card a 301 in the round, the best among the top-three on the day.
Josh Gilkison turned in a field-best 72 on Saturday, and will enter the finale tied for the top spot with Toledo's Barend Botha.
Chris Vandette kept his place inside the top-ten and will head into round three alone in ninth six strokes over par.
Cade Breitenstine rounded out the Flashes in the top-20 surging ahead with a 75 on the day, matched by a 75 from Bryce Reed, who stepped in for Jordan Gilkison throughout Saturday's action.
Sunday's finale will tee off at 8 am and Kent State will once again be paired with Toledo as the two battle it out with Eastern Michigan and a hungry field for a MAC Title.
