Two-time NCAA Tournament qualifier Drew Lashaway has returned to the Kent State wrestling program as a volunteer assistant. Lashaway makes his coaching debut following a stellar career with the Golden Flashes that included 91 victories in four seasons.
"We’re happy to be able to keep Drew around," Head Coach Jim Andrassy said. "He had full-time offers with other schools, but he chose to stay here. He’ll do a nice job of filling the gap between the rest of the coaches and the athletes and he’ll be able to show the younger guys how we want things done both on the mat and in the classroom."
The 141-pounder finished 31-7 as a senior and won a Mid-American Conference title. Lashaway went 4-0 in MAC duals last year, placed first at the Body Bar Invitational and second at the Southern Scuffle. He tallied a 30-11 record as a junior with a 5-0 mark in MAC duals.
As a sophomore, Lashaway was named to the Academic All-MAC team and advanced to the championship match of the MAC Tournament in the first of three consecutive seasons.
A native of Bowling Green, Ohio, Lashaway was a three-time state qualifier at Eastwood High School and won an individual state championship as a senior. He posted a career record of 145-20.
An industrial technology major as an undergraduate, Lashaway is now working toward a master’s degree at KSU.
