Interim head coach Eric Oakley announced that Stephanie Zimny will join the Kent State softball coaching staff as an assistant coach on Thursday (October 1). Zimny joins the Golden Flashes after spending the previous five seasons as head coach at her alma mater, Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.), where she has also been the head volleyball coach since 2012.
After taking over as head coach midway through the 2011 season, Zimny guided CCSJ to its first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament appearance that same year. She led the Crimson Wave to the conference tournament in every season since and compiled a 116-111 record overall.
During her head coaching tenure, Zimny coached eight All-CCAC selections, 10 CCAC All-Academic Team selections and 3 NAIA Daktronic Scholar-Athletes. The 2014 team also earned NAIA Scholar-Team honors.
Zimny was a multi-sport athlete during her collegiate career at CCSJ, earning letters in softball and volleyball. In 2009, she was named CCSJ's Athlete of the Year in addition to being All-CCAC First Team and a Daktronics Scholar-Athlete in softball.
A 2010 graduate of CCSJ, Zimny has a B.S. in elementary education.
