Gross returns to the Mid-American Conference after spending last season as an assistant coach at Walsh University. He served as co-interim head coach at Toledo during the 2014 season and guided the Rockets to an overall record of 19-34 and 9-13 mark in the conference season.
At Kent State, Gross will work primarily with the team's infielders and assist with hitting instruction.
Before to his stint at Toledo, Gross served four years as the head coach at Heath High School. He led the Bulldogs to three district semifinals and the school's first 20-win season since the early 1990's. Prior to becoming head coach, Gross coached Heath's junior varsity team for one season and also spent time as head coach at Heath Junior High School, working with high school coaches to develop players for the next level. Additionally, he developed a local Heath All-Star Team into a competitive travel squad, where he saw winning seasons from 2006 through 2010.
He is also an experienced clinician doing work in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana and has worked with Olympian Crystl Bustos and the 'Got Bustos? Softball Camp'.
Gross graduated from Columbia Southern University in 2013 with a degree in criminal justice administration. He and his wife, Lorri, have two children.
