Men's Basketball vs. Akron Named MAC TV Game of the Week, Time Moved to 2 p.m.

CLEVELAND, Ohios-- The Mid-American Conference announced today that the Akron at Kent State game on Feb. 4 has been selected as the first of four scheduled MAC Men's Basketball Game of the Week telecasts. The game will air live on Fox Sports Net Ohio, Comcast Local, CSN Chicago and Adelphia 13 (NY). Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Akron (11-3, 4-0 MAC) and Kent State (10-5, 4-0 MAC) will battle each other as both are looking to position themselves for a top spot in the East Division. John Sanders will call the play-by-play with Mark Adams adding the commentary. This will mark the 118th meeting between the two teams with Kent State holding a 61-56 advantage.
Akron's start is its best since beginning the 1999-2000 campaign with an identical record. The Zips started that season at 12-3, including a four-game and five-game win streak. The 1999-2000 campaign also marks the last time Akron opened MAC play 4-0. The Zips won their first six conference matchups that season. Akron leads the MAC in six offensive categories - scoring offense (77.9 ppg), scoring margin (+11.3), assists (17.8), assist-turnover ratio (1.6), 3-pointers made (8.8 per game) and 3-point field goals (37.9 percent). The Zips rank second in the league in field goals (47.6 percent), free throws (72.3 percent) and turnover margin (+3.4).
The Golden Flashes are also off to a hot start and remain undefeated in league play. KSU is 4-0 in Mid-American Conference play for just the second time in school history. In 53 previous seasons in the MAC, the Golden Flashes only other 4-0 start in league play was in 2003-04. The Golden Flashes rank second in the MAC in scoring (72.9 ppg), are third in scoring margin (+6.9), and are third in both rebounding offense (34.2) and rebounding margin (+2.5). Defensively, the Flashes are second in the league in defensive rebounding (22.93 rpg) and are third overall in steals (7.60).
