MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) -- DeAndre Haynes scored 20 points to lead Kent State past Central Michigan 66-60 on Saturday.
Central Michigan's Sefton Barrett tied the game at 52 with 5:18 left on the clock but the Golden Flashes (8-5, 2-0 Mid-American) went on a 9-2 run to take control of the contest.
Haynes scored seven of those nine points -- including a three-point play -- to seal Kent's 12th win over the Chippewas in 13 tries.
Kent State started off with a 23-13 lead over Central Michigan as the Chippewas (2-9, 0-3) continued their season-long shooting woes. They were just 8-for-25 (32 percent) from the floor in the first half.
Giordan Watson, who finished with a career-high 30 points, led a 13-4 run to cut the lead to 27-26 at halftime. Watson scored nine of the Chippewas' 13 points in the run and scored 19 of his total points in the first half.
Kent State won the game on the offensive glass as it finished with 40 total rebounds, 11 of those on the offensive end.
Jay Youngblood scored 12 points for Kent State, and Isaac Knight added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Barrett added 10 points for the Chippewas.
