Kent State-Akron MAC TV Game of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohios- The Mid-American Conference announced today that the Kent State at Akron game on March 4 has been selected as the MAC Mens Basketball Game of the Week. It will be the last regular season telecast until the upcoming FirstEnergy MAC Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena March 9-11. The game will air live on Fox Sports Net Ohio, Comcast Local, Chicago Sports Net Chicago and Adelphia 13 (NY) and is scheduled to tip off at Noon EST/11 a.m. CST.
Akron (19-5, 12-2 MAC) is currently tied with Kent State (18-7, 12-2 MAC) for the East Division lead as both teams may be fighting for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament. Jeff Phelps will call the play-by-play with John Sanders adding the commentary. The two teams last met on February 4 with Kent State defeating the Zips, 63-57. This will mark the 119th meeting between the two teams with Kent State holding a 62-56 advantage.
Akron, winners of three straight and six of its last seven games, comes off a 77-62 home win over Bowling Green Tuesday. Akrons record is its best start in the Division I era (1980-81). The Zips boast a MAC-best 11-0 record at home this season and have won 16-straight, currently the fifth-longest in the nation. UA has won 25 of its last 26 games at Rhodes Arena, making the Zips 25-1 at home in the Dambrot era. The loss came against Kent State (57-54/Feb. 9. 2005).
The Golden Flashes have won two in row and four of its last five after defeating Buffalo in double overtime on Tuesday, 111-107. Kent State is 6-1 in MAC road games, with just two remaining at Bowling Green and at Akron. For just the ninth time in its history in the Mid-American Conference, Kent State has compiled 12 league victories. Seven of those 12 MAC-win seasons have come in the last eight years, with just two prior to 1998. Since the start of the 1998-99 season, Kent State has averaged 13.0 MAC victories per season.
