Haynes Named MAC East Player of the Week

KENT, Ohio Senior guard DeAndre Haynes was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday (Feb. 27). Haynes averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in leading Kent State to a pair of victories last week.
It is the first MAC Player of the Week selection for Haynes this season and the third time in his career he has been honored. Haynes is joined this week by Toledos Justin Ingram, who is the MAC West Division Player of the Week.
Haynes began the week with a 21-point effort at Bowling Green, where he went 6-of-10 from the field and 2-for-4 from three-point range. Against Miami, he totaled 10 points and five rebounds and also added seven assists against just one turnover.
On the year, Haynes is second on the team averaging 12.8 points per game and also is contributing 4.1 assists per contest. He is Kent States all-time leader in assists (617) and steals (219) and is the only player in KSU history with 600 assists and 200 steals. He also became the 23rd player in KSU history with 1,000 career points and has 1,175 in his career.
The Golden Flashes, currently 21-7 (14-2 MAC) are atop the MAC standings. Kent State is next in action when it hosts Ohio, Tuesday, Feb. 28, with the Flashes looking to clinch at least a share of their second MAC regular-season championship.
