Men's Basketball Falls at Akron 75-67

AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Rob Preston scored all seven of his points in a 10-0 second-half run to spur Akron to a 75-67 victory over Kent State on Saturday.
The Zips (21-8, 14-4 Mid-American) trailed 45-41 after Jay Youngblood hit two free throws for regular-season champion Kent State (22-8, 15-3) with 12:27 left in the game.
But Akron scored the next 10 points. Matt Futch hit a 3-pointer to start the rally before Preston's two foul shots at the 11:17 mark put Akron ahead for good. Preston then added a 3-pointer and a layup to expand the lead to 51-45 with 9? minutes remaining.
Darryl Peterson had 22 points, with Cedrick Middleton adding 11 points as Akron finished unbeaten at home (13-0) for the first time in 19 years.
DeAndre Haynes scored 21 points, Youngblood had 20 and Mike Scott 10 for the Golden Flashes, who had a six-game winning streak come to an end.
Kent State led by as many as 12 points in the first half. After overtaking the Golden Flashes, the Zips built their lead to 11 points.
