Starting Dec. 5, The Jim Christian Show will broadcast on Wednesday evenings to about 2.8 million homes, including Columbus, Toledo and Buffalo, to highlight the success of the Kent State men's basketball program, as well as the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the university.
The show will air from Dec. 5 through March 29, 2008, on SportsTime Ohio. Show times include 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, with a regularly scheduled replay at 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays, along with several other times throughout the week. Check listings for more details.
The show is hosted by Bill Needle, who has been calling KSU men's basketball and football games for the Kent State Sports Network since joining the network in 2002. In addition to his duties with Kent State Needle has worked in a variety of roles for FSN Ohio, including serving as a pregame host for both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians and as a color analyst for Mid-American Conference basketball and sideline reporter and halftime host for MAC football. A graduate of Ohio Northern University, Needle was selected to compete on JEOPARDY! this fall. Previously he worked as the Director of Public Relations for the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and the Cavaliers.
The show, written, produced and shot locally by Kent State TeleProductions at the Kent Campus, will be broadcast a minimum of four times per week on SportsTime Ohio, which also airs Indians games, Browns and Cavs programming and shows focused specifically toward Ohio-area sports fans. Viewers will get an intimate look at the team from Kent State Head Coach Jim Christian as the men's basketball season progresses, through highlights, game discussions and detailed player profiles. One weekly segment, “Excellence in Action Spotlights,” will feature examples of excellence taking place at Kent State, including student-athletic and academic accomplishments.
