Sunday marked the day that two more Kent State Golden Flashes made their jump into the NFL. Andre Kirkland and Daniel Muir both signed as undrafted free agents following the conclusion of the 2007 NFL Draft.
Andre Kirkland signed with the St. Louis Rams following his senior season at Kent State where he led the defense in 2006. Kirkland recorded the most total tackles on the team (104), solo tackles (63), tackles for loss (13.5), and pass deflections (11). Kirkland was tied for the team lead with four interceptions, and was second on the team with four forced fumbles.
Daniel Muir joined the Green Bay Packers after going undrafted on Sunday. Muir was one of the top defensive linemen for the Golden Flashes in 2006. Muir led the defensive line with 52 total tackles, 11 tackles for lost yards, and forced two fumbles. Muir was also second on the team with five and a half sacks and was the only lineman to record an interception. In addition, he was the only player for Kent State to record a safety.
Muir will be immediately joining Green Bay for their mini camp which kicks off on Friday, May 4.
Kirkland will be joining St. Louis on Friday, May 11th for the beginning of his mini camp.
The loss of Muir, Kirkland, and Usama Young, who was drafted on Saturday in the third round by the New Orleans Saints, are the only losses that the starting defense suffered from 2006. And if all goes well for all three, there is potential that Andre and the Rams will play Usama and the Saints on November 11th. The Rams also will play Muir and the Packers December 16th.
