The Game
Kent State (5-6) is home for the fifth time in the last six games as the Golden Flashes host Shawnee State on Tuesday. KSU Head Coach Geno Ford will be matched-up against his former school and a former assistant. Ford began his head coaching career at the Portsmouth, Ohio institution in 2001-02 leading the Bears to a 22-10 record and earning American Mideast Conference Coach of the Year honors. Jeff Hamilton, an assistant on the team under Ford, took over the program after the year and is now in his seventh season as the Bears' head coach.
The Golden Flashes are coming off a loss at Cleveland State last Tuesday in which they shot a season low 29.6 percent from the field. Despite the offensive woes, junior guard Chris Singletary reached double figures for the 13th straight game with a team high 13 points. Singletary's streak matches the longest at Kent State since the Trevor Huffman had 14 straight during the 2000-01 season. Junior guard Tyree Evans added 12 points in just his second game at KSU and is averaging 16.5 ppg while shooting 53.8 percent (7-13) from three.
Shawnee State (5-7) has lost two straight after a 93-72 loss at Huntington on Dec. 20. Justin Patrick leads the team with 14.9 ppg.
