7:00: We are here live at the M.A.C. Center for a re-match of last year's bracket buster thriler. Really quick, here is the lowdown on St. Mary's conference, the West Coast Conference (WCC). They are primarily on the west coast with 8 members. Besides the Gaels, we have Santa Clara, Pepperdine, Portland, Gonzaga, San Diego, San Francisco and Loyola Marymount. This conference is not short on history.
Everyone knows Gonzaga's magical run to the Elite 8 as the 10th seed in the West Region in 1999 (falling to eventual National Champion UCONN), but San Fran won the national championship in 1955 and '56 on the back of Bill Russell. Loyola Marymount is famous for the early '90s run and gun-style offense that produced an average of more than 100 points. Santa Clara is famous, as a 15 seed in 1992, for knocking off 2 seed Arizona. San Diego has Jenny Craig as an alumnus and Pepperdine is famous for almost derailing NCST in 1983 when they won the national championship, but the Green Wave could not hold on to the lead in the first round.
Where getting ready for tip, so here we go!
