Kent State Hosts Rival Akron In Regular Season Finale On Sunday

The Game
Kent State (17-13; 9-6) closes out the regular season against neighborhood rival Akron (19-11; 10-5) in a Fox Sports Ohio telecast. This is the fourth straight year the two teams have squared off in the final game of the regular season.
Since the last meeting with the Zips, the Golden Flashes have won nine of the last 11 following a 77-71 overtime win over Buffalo on Thursday night. Junior Chris Singletary led the team with 19 points while shooting a career best 12-14 from the foul line, but its was the senior trio of Al Fisher, Jordan Mincy and Julian Sullinger that propelled KSU to victory. The trio, which will be honored before today's (Sunday) game, combined for 40 points, including all 10 in overtime. Fisher, who has made a career of his last game heroics was at it again with eight of his 15 points and the go ahead basket coming in the extra period. The 2008 MAC Player of the Year, he is averaging 4.0 ppg in the final five minutes and overtime this season. KSU's MVP during the 11-game span, Mincy reached had 13 points to reach double figures for fourth time in the last six games after doing so just twice in his first 106 games. Shooting 59 percent, he is averaging 11.1 ppg in the last 11 contests. The MAC leader in FG percentage during league play (.602), Sullinger is coming off his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds on Thursday night.
Akron has won three of its last four conference games after a 60-51 win at home over Ohio on Thursday. Coming off the bench Brett McKnight leads the team with 11.2 points per game and had a career high 29 in the last meeting with KSU.
