KENT, Ohio -- The Mid-American Conference recently announced the conference portion of the 2009-10 men's basketball schedule.
"The MAC is highly competitive every season and this year is no different," said second-year Kent State Head Coach Geno Ford. "In the last two years alone six different teams have reached the post-season so you have to be ready to play every night."
The Golden Flashes get MAC play started with road trips to East Division foes Ohio (Jan. 9) and Miami (Jan. 12). KSU dropped close games in Athens (71-65) and Oxford (68-63) last year.
Kent State heads back to the friendly confines of the M.A.C. Center for a battle with Bowling Green (Jan. 17) and consecutive games against MAC Tournament runner-up Buffalo (Jan. 20) and champion Akron (Jan. 23). KSU split the regular season series with all three teams while the Bulls ended the Flashes' title defense in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
The Flashes wrap up January by beginning a six-game stretch against MAC West teams. The interleague play opens with a trip to Toledo (Jan. 26) followed by two straight home games against Western Michigan (Jan. 30) and Northern Illinois (Feb. 1). The Flashes then head north to face Eastern Michigan (Feb. 4) and Central Michigan (Feb. 6). The West Division leg of the schedule concludes with a home game against Ball State (Feb. 10).
KSU resumes division action by squaring off with Buffalo (Feb. 13) in upstate New York and hosting Ohio (Feb. 17) before the MAC schedule is broken up by the ESPN Bracketbuster matchup (Feb. 20). The Flashes travel to Bowling Green (Feb. 24) before the final home game of the season at home against Miami (Feb. 27) which will be highlighted by university's Centennial Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Kent State closes the regular season out at crosstown rival Akron (March 5).
Tip times for all the games have yet to be determined.
The Flashes officially open up the regular season by hosting the Hispanic College Fund Tournament, taking on Samford in the first game of the tournament Nov. 13. Click here for a link to Kent State's complete 2009-10 men's basketball schedule.
