McKee on Italy...
The first day was long since we left Kent at 8 a.m. To help deal with the jet lag, they said to stay up and to just sleep on the plane, so spending five hours in the Philly airport without going to sleep was quite long.
I thought there would be more legroom on the plane, so getting comfortable was not easy. I'm dragging a bit now.
Never thought I'd get a chance to come here. It didn't really hit me about the significance of the trip until we arrived here. The airport in Rome was nothing special, but when we got on the bus to ride through ancient Rome, its was like "wow. This place is something special."
If I could describe the Colosseum I would say ancient or amazing. It's hard to grasp the fact of just how old everything is. It isn't like it is a few hundred years old, we're talking almost a thousand or more. A thousand years, just think about that for a moment. To think we have the opportunity to walk in like the gladiators did.
I was excited about seeing the balcony and where the Pope appears. The detail inside the church is indescribable on how specific things are. It just amazed me.
We also got a chance to walk through the streets of Rome and eat at some unique pizzeria with some interesting characters working there. Most of the people in the shops understand a little English, but where we were at, it was difficult to comprehend so we did our best.
