Weekly Honors Piling Up For KSU As Singletary Earns Second Honor

Kent State has won four of the last five MAC East P.O.W. awards
KENT, Ohio – For the fourth time in five weeks, Kent State had a player honored as the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week when senior guard Chris Singletary (Chicago, Ill. / Florida Prep) was recognized with the award on Monday (Feb. 1). The award is Singletary's second this season and third in his career.
Singletary averaged 16.0 points and helped the Golden Flashes extend their winning streak to four straight with a 2-0 week. In a thrilling 74-73 win over Western Michigan on Saturday he scored 21 of his season high 24 points in the second half. Singletary also added five rebounds and three assists in just 25 minutes of action. Last Tuesday, Kent State picked up its sixth win away from home this season with a 69-49 triumph over Toledo. Singletary played just 23 minutes in the 20 point victory scoring eight points and dishing out three assists.
For the week he shot 52.9 percent (9-17) from the field and 73.7 percent (14-19) from the foul line. Singletary leads Kent State giving the team a +132 advantage in points scored when he is on the court this season.
Last week sophomore Justin Greene (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Lincoln) was honored for a second time and red-shirt junior Rodriquez Sherman received the POW award on Nov. 16. The five total POW awards match a single season high set in 2007-08 for the KSU program.
The Golden Flashes return to action on Monday at home against Northern Illinois.
