The Game
Kent State (10-4; 0-1) welcomes Miami (4-9; 0-1) to the M.A.C. Center center on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. for a Mid-American Conference East Division battle. Both teams enter the game looking for their first conference win of the season and avoid falling back in what is expected to be a tight divisional race.
The Golden Flashes have finished either first in second in the East Division in 12 of the last 13 years due in large part to their dominance at home against conference foes. In fact, since the start of the 2003-04 season alone Kent State owns a 63-7 (.900) home record against league competition.
Despite committing a season low seven turnovers, the Golden Flashes lost a close 66-65 game at Buffalo on Saturday to start MAC play. Senior forward Justin Greene scored 16 points on 7-10 from the field, but was limited to just 20 minutes, including six in the second half due to foul trouble. Greene also recorded two steals in the game which brought his career total over 100 made him the first player in school history to record over 1,000 points, 100 blocks and 100 steals in a career. He is also the only active player in the MAC to have accomplished the feat. In addition he moved into the top 10 on Kent State's career scoring list. He currently ranks 10th all-time with 1,265 points. Senior guard Michael Porrini had his second best offensive game of the season hitting on 3-5 from three and scoring 13 points while adding three assists and three steals.
Miami opened MAC play with a 65-60 defeat at home to Akron last Saturday. The RedHawks have lost four of their last five and are 1-6 away from home this season. Julian Mavunga, a 6'8" senior forward leads the MAC in both scoring (19.7 ppg) and rebounding (10.7 rpg).
