Kent State Cross Country Travels to EMU Fall Classic in Preparation for MAC Championships

Golden Flashes to compete in final meet prior to MAC Championships on Oct. 27th.
The Kent State cross country teams will run their second race in six days when they compete at the Eastern Michigan Fall Classic Friday (Oct. 19). at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich. The meet will serve as final preparation for next weekend's Mid-American Conference Championships.
The men and women will both compete in 5K races with no team scoring. The women's race begins at 4:30 p.m. and the men's race is slated for 5 p.m.
Senior Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, Mich.) paced the women's team for the third consecutive meet as the Golden Flashes finished 10th at the NCAA Division I Pre-National Meet on Saturday. Vintevoghel crossed the finish line in 22:17.5 for 49th place. Freshman Hannah Fleck (Celina, Ohio), redshirt junior Melinda Sawnor (Rochester, N.Y.), and freshman Rachel Slingluff (Chesterland, Ohio) were all in the top 100 finishers at the event.
Redshirt senior Michael Heller (Stow, Ohio) looks to continue his stellar season this weekend. After earning individual titles at the first two events of the season, Heller was runner-up at the All-Ohio Championships (first among Division I runners) and fifth at the NCAA Division I Pre-National Meet over the weekend. Sophomore Matt Kahl (Mason, Ohio) has contributed for the Golden Flashes after missing the first two meets. Kahl was third on the team at the All-Ohio Championships and the Flashes' second finish this past weekend.
Kent State will run at the MAC Championships next Friday (Oct. 19) in Buffalo, N.Y.
