KENT, Ohio — Kent State has added three players to its men's basketball program for the 2013-14 season. Swingman Gary Akbar (San Jacinto College [Tex.]), post Raasean Davis (Paulding County H.S.) and wing Rosel Hurley (/Shaker Heights H.S.) have signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period to join the Golden Flashes head coach . Akbar averaged 7.5 point and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Chaparrals. A Dayton native, Akbar won two state titles during his prep career at tradition-rich Dunbar High School under head coach Pete Pullen. As a senior, Akbar was named Division II co-Player of the Year as he led the Wolverines to an unbeaten 28-0 season.
"We originally recruited Gary out of high school and have continued to follow him the last two years. He can play multiple positions, defends multiple positions and has a really strong body that makes him college ready. Gary is a very versatile player does a lot of things well—shoot it, pass it, handle it. You can post him up and play through him. He fits the mold of a Kent State forward—guys like , a 6'7" forward who transferred from Hofstra, and senior Blake Vedder, a 7'4" center who transferred from Division II Indiana (Pa.), will be eligible after sitting out the 2013-14 season under NCAA transfer rules.
