CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Kent State's men's and women's cross country teams each competed at the All-Ohio Championships Friday, October 3rd in Cedarville, Ohio where the men's team finished in seventh place overall with 237 points, as the women's team took eighth overall with 233 points.
The Golden Flashes' against division 1 opponents, the men's team placed fifth out of seven teams with a total of 103 points while the women's team took fourth out of seven teams with 80 points. The men's team posted a total time of 2:09:40.58 as the women's team had a total time of 1:55:35.88. 8th
Akron won the men's division 1 race with a total of 32 points as Ohio won the women's division 1 race with a total of 35 points. There were a total of 81 division 1 men runners and 75 division 1 women runners. Overall there were 569 men in 42 teams, with Akron winning overall (53 points) and 503 women in 42 teams, with Malone coming away with the overall win with 52 total points. .
Leading the way for the men's squad was Matt Kahl. Kahl ran the 8K course in 25:05.27 for fourth place. He was followed by Jared Fleming at 25:39.93 (14th place), Mitchell Grose at 25:49.80 (19th place), Grant Onken at 26:18.81 (35th place), Samuel Allen at 26:46.77 (46th place), Nick Schank in a time of 26:47.79 (47th place), Joe Wisniewski placed 48th in a time of 26:53.53 as Joey Kinkelaar came across in a time of 26:55.86 for 50th place with Matt Waaland rounding out the runners with a time of 27:13.79 for 58th place.
On the women's side, Kelsey McAlpine took charge as she finished the 6K course in a time of 22:13.01 for second place. Coming in closely behind McAlpine was Rachel Slingluff who finished in a time of 22:37.66 for an fifth place finish. Slingluff was followed by Taylor Wickey at 23:30.73 (23rd place), Lindsey Myers at 23:32.06 (26th place), Morgan Bing finished in 30th place at 23:42.42, Brigid Callaghan at 23:48.81 (32nd place) with Madison Spreitzer in 44th place at 24:14.13. Kristen Bergmeyer came across in 49th place with a time of 24:20.53 as Jesse Slingluff took 54th at 24:52.90.
The Golden Flashes return to action in two weeks when they travel to Terre Haute, Indiana for the NCAA Pre-National Invitational on Saturday, October 18th hosted by Indiana State. Click HERE for the NCAA Pre-National Invitational Website for more information.
