Kent State sophomore safety Nate Holley (Toledo, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week Monday for the second time this season. The conference office announcement came after Holley led the Golden Flashes with 16 tackles at Northern Illinois this past Saturday.
For the third time this season, Holley finished with 12 solo tackles, helping hold a potent NIU offense to just 17 points. He also had 1.5 tackles for loss. His 16 total tackles were his second most in a game, behind his first player of the week performance, when Holley made 18 tackles against Ohio.
Holley currently ranks second in the nation in solo tackles per game (9.2) and third in total tackles (14.4). He has been Kent State's leading tackler in seven consecutive games. Holley's first start came in game 10 of the 2013 season and remains as the only game he was not the team's leading tackler when starting.
The Golden Flashes return to action Saturday, hosting UMass inside Dix Stadium at 2 p.m.
