KENT, Ohio — Kent State lost to Buffalo, 9-0, in five innings in a Mid-American Conference contest that featured a weather delay that lasted nearly two hours Saturday afternoon at the Diamond at Dix.
Buffalo took advantage of a Kent State error in the second inning to score two unearned runs. The Bulls added three runs in the third inning and loaded the bases again to threaten in the fourth before play was suspended.
Upon returning to the field, Kent State was able to record outs at the plate on the first two batters. Just when it looked like the Flashes would escape unscathed, the next batter was hit by a pitch. Buffalo's Ryleigh Fitzgerald followed with a double to clear the bases.
Junior Emma Johnson (14-9) allowed six runs (four earned) while striking out four batters in three innings. Senior Lauren McNeil replaced Johnson in the fourth and pitched the final two innings. McNeil allowed three runs on three hits.
Kent State (24-17, 10-5) concludes the regular season against Buffalo (26-20, 10-5) on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Golden Flashes will recognize seniors Jessacca Gironda, Caitie Kilbane, Abbey Ledford, Lauren McNeil and Kim Morgason following the game.
