
Paracca Scores Golden Goal to Defeat St. Francis in Overtime

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Freshman Karli Paracca (Valencia, Pa.) tallied her first collegiate goal in the 96th minute to help Kent State to a 1-0 overtime victory over St. Francis on Friday afternoon during the UNLV Nike Invitational. The victory improves Kent State to 2-1-0 overall, while the Red Flash drop to 0-3-0.
Both squads battled during the 90-minutes of regulation, but Kent State led 10-9 in shots heading into the overtime period. The Golden Flashes had two looks on goal in the first period, including a shot by rookie Doni Capehart (Orient, Ohio) from the top of the 18 in the 32nd minute, and another look by Paracca in the 37th that was sent away by goalkeeper Romina Kunze.
Kent State kept the shots firing in the second period, out-shooting the Red Flash 7-5, including three on goal. Sophomore Abbie Lawson's (Stow, Ohio) shot was collected by the keeper in the 47th minute and senior Stephanie Haugh (Richmind Hill, Ontario) had a long blast in the 53rd minute that was collected by Kunze.
Kent State had all three shots in the six minutes of overtime, and finally found the back of the net on Paracca's unassisted goal.
Senn earned the win in net for the Golden Flashes and picked up her second shutout of the season. She tallied six saves in 96:47 today and is now 2-1-0. Kunze had six saves in goal for Sr. Francis and drops to 0-3.
Kent State will now play Colorado at 1 p.m. (PT) on Sunday, Aug. 31. Live stats and video will be available.
