
Soccer Falls to Buffalo in MAC Opener

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Buffalo on Friday night at Zoeller Field. The Bulls got goals from Katie Roberts and Celina Carrero and improved to 5-2-1 and are 1-0-0 in the MAC. With the loss, the Golden Flashes dropped to 5-3-1 (0-1-0 MAC) on the season.
Roberts opened the scoring for the Bulls in the 9th minute when she headed in a rebound. Kent State junior goalkeeper Stephanie Senn deflected a shot that Roberts was able to head back across the goal-line.
The second goal for Buffalo came at the 22:53 mark of the first-half, when Carrero volleyed a shot from long distance. Carrero took a shot from 25-yards out on the right side and put it past Senn into the top left corner.
The Golden Flashes battled hard and outworked Buffalo for a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks and were only outshot by the Bulls 17-16.
Kent State had a couple of quality chances but was unable to find the back of the net. With 10 seconds remaining in the first half, freshman Karli Paracca had a shot at the buzzer that tested Bulls goalkeeper Laura Dougall. Paracca hit a shot low and to the left corner that Dougall was able to stop as time expired in the first-half.
In the second-half, Kent State's best chance came at the 28:41 mark on a free kick. Stephanie Haugh got a head on the free kick that Buffalo keeper Dougall pushed over the bar. Dougall ended the night with eight saves in goal and improved to 5-1-1.
Senn received the loss in net for the Golden Flashes and dropped to 5-3-1, 0-1-0 overall. She earned eight saves in her 90 minutes in net. Brittany Maisano led Kent State's attack with four shots, including three on goal.
Kent State is back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host Akron for the first Wagon Wheel point of the 2014-15 season. Kent State will also honor its five seniors prior to the match.
