HAMPTON, Va.- Junior Tyler Buckwalter (165) completed a 4-0 weekend, but Chattanooga topped Kent State 27-9 Saturday morning in the Bronze Bracket finals of the Virginia Duals. The Mocs (5-5) won seven matches inside Hampton Coliseum, including four of the first five weights.
In his 4-2 win over Justin Lampe, Buckwalter converted a pivotal takedown at the very end of the first period. Buckwalter recorded two escapes in the third period to seal a win in seven straight dual meets.
For the second straight dual, the Golden Flashes won an overtime match. Senior Tyler Small came through with a takedown in sudden victory to top Mike Pongracz. Small relinquished the only takedown of regulation, but had a pair of escapes and rode out Pongracz for the entire second period.
Junior Cole Baxter improved to 3-1 on the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Scottie Boykin.
Chattanooga dropped a pair of close duals to West Virginia and Edinboro Friday, sending them into the Bronze Bracket. Four of the Mocs' five losses this season have been by four points or less.
The Golden Flashes (5-7, 1-1 MAC) collide with archrival Ohio Friday, Jan. 16, at the M.A.C. Center.
