CLEVELAND, Ohio – Less than 24 hours after Kent State defeated Toledo in a highly-competitive contest at the M.A.C. Center, the rematch between the two teams on Friday, February 13 at Savage Arena has been selected for broadcast in front of a national television audience on ESPNU. The Mid-American Conference office announced on Thursday that the game has been selected as the league's wildcard game for that weekend and will be played at 6 p.m.
This is the conference's third of five Friday night wildcard selections on the ESPN family of networks, and the second marquee matchup that will feature the Golden Flashes. Earlier this month, it was announced that Kent State's game at Buffalo on Janaury 30 will be broadcast on ESPNU at 10 p.m.
Kent State (13-5, 4-1) was picked to finish third in the MAC East in the preseason and has won four straight games to sit in a three-way tie for first place in the overall conference standings. Head coach Rob Senderoff has the Flashes off to a 4-1 start to MAC play for the first time since 2008, which is the last time the team played in the NCAA Tournament. Redshirt sophomore Jimmy Hall (14.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg) has provided a strong inside presence to complement the play of Devareaux Manley (12.2 ppg), Kris Brewer (10.9 ppg) and Derek Jackson (10.2 pg, 3.6 apg) on the perimeter.
Preseason MAC Tournament favorite Toledo (10-8, 2-3) has the MAC's second-highest scoring offense at 74.6 points per game and point guard Julius Brown (15.5 ppg, 4.4 apg) is one of the top players in the conference. J.D. Weatherspoon (13.4 ppg), Justin Drummond (12.2 ppg) and Jonathan Williams (10.7 ppg) also average double-figure points.
The Flashes made six of eight free throw attempts in the final minute to close out a 67-60 win over the Rockets on Wednesday. Seniors Brewer, Jackson and Manley combined to score 49 points in leading Kent State to its first win over Toledo since 2012.
The rematch, which was originally scheduled for February 14, will also be available on ESPN3, WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app on mobile devices.
