
Northeast Ohio Colleges Team Up to Fight Cancer

The American Cancer Society is honored to announce that Kent State University, Youngstown State University, Cleveland State University and The University of Akron have teamed up for in support of Coaches Vs Cancer®, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches established to provide critical mission outreach and financial resources in support of the Society's lifesaving efforts. On November 14, Kent State University will host the region's inaugural basketball doubleheader Coaches Vs Cancer game to support the American Cancer Society.
"It is a tremendous honor to partner with the American Cancer Society and the other Division I programs for this doubleheader," said Kent State head coach Rob Senderoff. "This is a great opportunity to promote and raise funds for Coaches vs. Cancer while showcasing the quality of college basketball played in Northeast Ohio. This will be a great way to kickoff the season. We are excited to be able to host the inaugural event and look forward to packing the M.A.C. Center on November 14."
Kent State University will match up with Youngstown State University for the first game at 7:00pm.and Cleveland State University and the University of Akron will face off at 9:00pm. Tickets for this cancer fighting event at Kent State are available for purchase online at www.coachesvscancer.org/neodoubleheader and at each University's ticket office.  $5 from each ticket will go to the American Cancer Society to help support cancer patients and their families.

The initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy lifestyle choices through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
The 2015 Coaches vs. Cancer Northeast Ohio Doubleheader will be the start of an annual basketball event hosted on a rotating basis at each school. Youngstown State will host in 2016, The University of Akron in 2017 and Cleveland State in 2018.
The Coaches vs. Cancer program empowers coaches, their teams, and communities to join the fight against cancer by participating in awareness efforts, advocacy programs, and fundraising activities to help people with cancer today and to find cures to end the disease tomorrow. Guided by the Coaches vs. Cancer Council, participating coaches have helped raise more than $87 million to help the American Cancer Society save lives by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer.
