CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Kent State-Akron rivalry will once again be on the national stage as the regular season finale between the Mid-American Conference rivals on Friday, March 6 will be aired on ESPN2, the conference office announced Monday evening. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip at the M.A.C. Center.
The MAC's biggest hardwood rivalry will be televised for the 29th consecutive time, which is the longest streak in the conference. Separated by a mere 14 miles, Kent State and Akron have met 141 times on the hardwood with the Golden Flashes holding a 71-70 advantage in the all-time series. The Flashes will look to maintain their lead in the series and avenge a 61-52 loss at James A. Rhodes Arena last week.
As usual when the rivals meet on the hardwood, much more than bragging rights could be on the line. With just six league game remaining, both teams are 8-4 in MAC play and sit just one game out of first place in the overall conference standings.
This is the last of five MAC wildcard selections as part of the conference's television deal with ESPN. Kent State's games against Buffalo on January 30 and Toledo on February 13 were also wildcard selections. The Golden Flashes were one of two MAC teams to be featured in three of the five nationally-televised games. The game will also be available on ESPN3, WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app on mobile devices.
Kent State returns to action when it hosts Ball State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased over the phone by calling 330-672-2244, at the M.A.C. Center Ticket Office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. or online at KentStateSports.com.
