Gymnastics Victorious as Host of the 2015 MAC Championships

KENT, Ohio – Kent State's gymnastics team won their 12th Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday, March 21st in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. The Golden Flashes finished in first place with a score of 196.375.
This title marks the first Kent State victory since 2009, as the Flashes have now won all five titles when they host the tournament in Kent (1981, 1988, 2001, 2008, 2015).
Behind Kent State, Central Michigan, who was seeking their sixth straight title, took second with a 196.275, a tenth off of the win. Western Michigan placed third (195.525), Eastern Michigan in fourth (195.075), Bowling Green in fifth (193.575) and Ball State and Northern Illinois in a tie for sixth (193.200).
Kent State had team scores of 48.975 on vault, 49.150 on bars, 48.925 on beam, and 49.325 on floor, to come up with their total score of 196.375.
Leading Kent State on bars was Rebecca Osmer with a personal-record of 9.900 for her first place finish, which sealed the Golden Flashes victory. Following Osmer in a tie for third was Ali Marrero with a score of 9.850, and tying for sixth was Kelsey Lawless with a personal-record of 9.825.
Skyelee Lamano and Rachel Stypinski finished with a score of 9.900 to finish in a five-way tie for first. Jordan Hardison finished sixth with a 9.875 and Nicole Eastman tied for seventh with a 9.850.
Scoring a 9.800 on the balance beam, Stypinski came in second. Hardison and Marrero followed in a tie for seventh with a 9.800.
At the conclusion of the meet, Stypinski was awarded with co-freshman of the year and specialist of the year.
