KENT, Ohio – Andy Ravel threw his first career complete game shutout as he dominated Buffalo (14-28, 6-14) in a 5-0 win on Saturday.
Kent State improves to 35-11 overall and 16-4 in Mid-American Conference play, remaining at the top of the conference standings.
The Golden Flashes got the scoring started when Conner Simonetti banged a solo shot out to right center on a 0-2 pitch. Another came in similar fashion when Tim DalPorto dinged a solo homerun over the wall in left.
The biggest inning was a two-run 7th when Josh Hollander singled, Reilly Hawkins walked and Luke Burch tripled them both home. The team's fifth and final run came by way of a Dylan Rosa walk and RBI base hit by DalPorto in the 8th.
Ravel ended four innings via a strikeout, the loudest of which came in the 9th. In the final frame, the Bulls led off with a single before Ravel struck out the next two batters. Two more singles loaded the bases, but Ravel stayed in rhythm and ended the game on a 0-2 pitch to sit the final batter down swinging. The junior gave up nine hits and walked two while striking out seven in the spectacular effort.
Offensively, Simonetti and DalPorto accounted for two hits each as the Golden Flashes finished with eight on the day.
The series will conclude on Sunday as Kent State will Pink Out the Park for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
