
Big Fourth Inning Lifts Racers Over Flashes in Mercer Invite Finale

MACON, Ga. – Kent State dropped the final game of the Mercer Invitational to Murray State, 10-0, in five innings Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Bailey Brownfield collected two of the Golden Flashes' five hits in the game. Sophomore Sydney Anderson, junior Vanessa Scoarste and junior Holly Speers had one hit apiece.
Kent State (3-2) had scoring opportunities in each of the first four innings but hit into three double-plays and stranded a runner at third base in the second, third and fourth.
Leading 2-0, Murray State (4-1) put eight runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth. The Racers collected six hits in the frame, including a pair of two-run homers. The final four runs were unearned.
In her first career start, freshman Madi Huck (0-2) allowed five runs on six hits with a strikeout in 3.1 innings. Senior Janel Hayes and freshman Kristyn Eckl each threw one-third of an inning for the Flashes.
Kent State will head to Cathedral, California next weekend to play in the prestigious Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The Flashes will play #9 Oregon in its tournament opener at 6 p.m. ET Friday. The tournament will feature a video stream by FloSoftball.
