Sophomore Devin Nye earned his 16th win of the season, but Kent State fell to No. 15 Central Michigan 40-3 Sunday afternoon at McGuirk Arena. Mount Pleasant continued to be a difficult trip for the Golden Flashes, who have dropped 10 of their last 11 duals on CMU's campus.
Nye used his weight and leverage well in a 5-2 victory over Tyrus Kemp. A pair of well-timed sprawls on Kemp shots in the second and third periods led to takedowns for Nye, who opened the scoring with an escape in the second.
Wrestling up a weight at 174, sophomore Isaac Bast jumped out to a 2-0 lead over CJ Brucki, before dropping an 11-2 major decision.
Sophomore Casey Sparkman and redshirt freshman Jared Walker were both in scoreless bouts after one period, but dropped decisions at 157 and 165.
Junior Stephen Suglio led his match 1-0 after one period, but got caught in a cradle from the neutral position in the second period.
The Flashes' lone win came in the final match of day as a forfeit at 133 helped the Chippewas jump out to a commanding 11-0 lead after two matches.
Kent State concludes its regular season Sunday, February 19, with a Mid-American Conference dual at Old Dominion.
