Softball Drops Mid-Week Game at Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Kent State lost to Pitt, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at Vartabedian Field.
Senior Nicole Teefy delivered the Golden Flashes' only hit of the game with a single in the sixth inning.
Pitt put four runs on the board in the bottom of the first. After a bunt single and walk, McKayla Taylor singled off the wall in right field to make it 1-0. Giorgiana Zeremenko then brought in two runs with a double to the center field warning track. Kaitlin Manuel followed with a single through the right side to score another run.
Zeremenko added solo shots in the third and fifth innings.
Senior Janel Hayes (5-3) had five strikeouts and allowed seven runs on nine hits. Freshman Kristyn Eckl recorded a strikeout in a scoreless inning of relief.
Kent State (8-14) begins Mid-American Conference play with a weekend series at Eastern Michigan. The teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Friday with the final game of the series at a to-be-determined time on Saturday. The series marks the start of a 10-day, 9-game Spring Break trip that includes stops at Alabama, Evansville and Central Michigan. Select games can be listened to on Golden Flashes iHeart Radio.
