Gymnastics Finishes Season at NCAA Morgantown Regional

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Kent State gymnastics team closed out the 2017 season on Saturday with a 194.375 to place sixth at the NCAA Morgantown Regional, hosted by West Virginia University.
The Golden Flashes got off to a solid start with a 49.025 on floor, their best event score of the competition. Kent State followed with a 48.425 on vault, 48.975 on bars and 47.950 on beam.
Junior Rachel Stypinski finished in a tie for ninth in the all-around competition with a 39.050 and just 0.125 points from advancing to the NCAA National Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, April 14-15. Stypinski posted the Flashes' top two scores of the day, a 9.875 on floor and a 9.850 on bars to finish tied for 12th and tied for 11th, respectively.
On floor, freshman Jade Brown tied for 20th with a 9.825. Senior Jordan Hardison scored a 9.800 to finish tied for 26th.
Competing on bars for the first time since last year's regional meet, junior Ali Marrero scored a 9.825 and tied for 20th. Senior Skyelee Lamano and sophomore Sarah Lippowitsch both earned a 9.775 to tie for 26th.
Sophomore Kennedy Plude scored a 9.800 to tie for 10th on beam and Hardison scored a 9.800 to tie for 13th on vault.
Michigan (197.350) and Alabama (196.625) had the top two team scores and will advance to the NCAA National Championships.
