Huck Throws Two-Hit Shutout and Bats Explode in 10-0 Victory

KENT, Ohio – Kent State (21-19, 7-8 MAC) sophomore pitcher Madi Huck fired a two-hit shutout in the Golden Flashes' 10-0 run-rule victory in five innings over Buffalo. Kent State clubbed its second-most hits in conference play (14) and were led by three-hit days from Emily Dobbin and Bailey Brownfield. Kent State also received a two-double day from both Brenna Brownfield and Carlee Selle.
"Madi Huck had a great outing and had a huge eight strikeouts. Even when she walked a batter she went right back to work and didn't allow a scoring threat," said Kent State head coach Eric Oakley. "The offense saw the ball very well, even after Buffalo changed pitchers, we adjusted well and kept hitting. We have two more games in this series and have to stay focused, but a great day for us."
The Flashes scored a five-spot in the bottom of the first inning. Two RBI singles from Bailey Brownfield and Maria Cegledy scored the first two before a RBI double by Brenna Brownfield and a two-RBI double from Carlee Selle.
Kent State added two more in the third playing small ball. Kaitlyn Miller grounded out to score a run and Kennadie Goth put down a safety squeeze bunt to score the second tally.
Brenna Brownfield collected her second RBI double in the fourth. Carlee Selle also hit a liner to center that was caught that scored another run. Allie Luther then launched her sixth dinger of the season to left to give the Flashes double-digit runs.
Huck (13-7) threw her fifth shutout of the season and allowed only two hits all day. She struck out a career-high eight and walked just one. Ally Power started for Buffalo and only went 0.1 innings, allowing five earned runs.
The Flashes and Bulls finish the series tomorrow, April 21, with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Game two will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
