Fletcher Ties for Second on Floor at NCAA Columbus Regional

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kent State scored a 194.375 to close out the 2018 gymnastics season at the NCAA Columbus Regional inside of St. John Arena on the campus of Ohio State University.
Freshman Abby Fletcher scored a team-best 9.900 on floor exercise. Fletcher finished in a six-way tie for second-place in the event and missed out on earning a trip to the NCAA National Championships by just 0.025.
Floor was the best event of the night for the Golden Flashes, who posted a 49.100 to finish the season with a score higher than 49.000 in every meet. Freshmen Nasha Manitkul-Davis and Toshi Richard both earned a 9.850 to tie for 11th-place. Sophomore Sarah McCarty received a 9.775 and senior Michaela Romito rounded out the counting scores with a 9.725.
Freshmen Sydney Chapman stepped up in a big way and posted a 9.800 to tie for along 15th-place with Fletcher and junior Alyssa Quinlan on balance beam. Competing on the apparatus for just the second time as a collegian, Chapman earned a personal-best score.
Senior All-American Rachel Stypinski finished in a tie for 24th on uneven bars with a 9.800. Junior Sarah Lippowitsch, Timko and junior Dara Williams each posted a 9.700.
On vault, Williams led the way with a 9.750 to tie for 13th. Junior Kennedy Plude scored a 9.725, while McCarty and senior Brooke Timko were all right behind with a 9.700.
UCLA (197.650) and Arkansas (196.775) had the top two team scores and will advance to the NCAA National Championships.
