KENT, Ohio - Kent State added a third member to its 2018 men's basketball recruiting class with the recent signing of Anthony Roberts (Detroit, Mich.). Â A 6-4 guard, Roberts will join the Golden Flashes this offseason from Henry Ford High School. Â
"Anthony is a multi-talented guard that can play all three perimeter positions," Head Coach Rob Senderoff said. "He played for an excellent high school coach in Ken Flowers and he was on a really good AAU team. He's able to impact the offensive side of the floor in a variety of ways and he can defend a number of positions."
Roberts began his high school career at Detroit Western International, helping his team to a state championship as a freshman and a district title as a sophomore. This past season, he helped Henry Ford to a 17-5 record and a district championship game appearance.Â
"With the graduation of Kevin Zabo and Des Ridenour, Anthony will have an opportunity to come in and compete for some of those minutes," Senderoff said. "His versatility on the perimeter can really help us and we're excited to bring him here. He's played against Danny Pippen and knows Jaylin Walker. We've had a lot of success with the Detroit area and we think he can continue that tradition of really good guards coming out of the state of Michigan."
Named to The Detroit Free Press All-Detroit First Team, Roberts averaged 22 points, six rebounds and five assists per game as a senior. He was also a Bank Hoops Class B All-State Second Team selection. One of his top performances came against Cass Tech, scoring 40 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, taking on the top-ranked team in the state.Â
