Kent State Falls in Elimination Game at MAC Softball Tournament

AKRON, Ohio – No. 4 seed Kent State saw its early lead disappear on a pair of two-run shots in a 4-2 loss to No. 2 seed Ball State on Friday afternoon's Mid-American Conference Softball Championship elimination game.
The Golden Flashes finish the season with a 29-23 record and extended their conference-best streak of 15 seasons qualifying for the MAC Tournament.
MAC Player of the Year Holly Speers drove in both of Kent State's runs on a single in the top of the first and groundout to the right side in the third.
Ball State tied the game with a home run in the bottom of the third and added another two-run dinger in the fourth to take the lead.
The Flashes held a 6-5 advantage in hits but left seven runners on base in the game. Jen Cader led the offense with two hits, while Speers and Carlee Selle both reached base twice on a single and a walk.
Madi Huck (18-9) went the distance for the Flashes in the circle and tallied six strikeouts.
Kent State set single-season team records for runs scored (284), hits (443), RBIs (240) and slugging percentage (.466).
The senior class of Emily Dobbin, Allie Luther, Vanessa Scoarste, Kylee Southers and Holly Speers leaves as the winningest class in Kent State history with 140 wins. They helped the Flashes to back-to-back MAC regular season championships in 2015 and 2016 in addition to a MAC Tournament crown in 2017.
