Flashes Roll Past Hampton With Season-High Scoring

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State men's basketball team picked up a 103-64 victory over Hampton Saturday night, as five Flashes scored in double figures inside the M.A.C. Center. The 103 points scored by Kent State is a season-high.
Kent State improved to 10-2 overall, the first time in school history a KSU team has 10 wins before Christmas. The Flashes also remain undefeated at home at 7-0.
Junior Danny Pippen led the way with a team-high 21 points shooting 7-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-6 from downtown. Pippen also grabbed three rebounds and had an assist. Sophomore Anthony Roberts scored 19 points and connected on 5-of-6 shots beyond the arc, a career-best. Roberts grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists. Senior Troy Simons stayed consistent and scored 13 points and collected five rebounds.
Seniors CJ Williamson and Antonio Williams rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points each.
There was no slow start tonight for the Flashes as they led Hampton by double digits, 16-4, four minutes into the game. KSU closed the half 60-29 shooting 72.4 percent (21-of-29) from the floor and went 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from three-point range. The Flashes finished the game with a season-high 57.4 percent (35-of-61) shooting and made 13 three-pointers.
Defensively, Kent State held the Pirates to only 5-of-17 (29.4 percent) from shooting beyond the arc. The Flashes out-rebounded Hampton, 42-23, while forcing 12 takeaways. The Flashes committed a season-low six turnovers.
Kent State will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule as the Flashes hit the road and travel to Starkville, Miss. to take on Mississippi State on Dec. 30. Tip time is 7 p.m. CT.
