CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State senior Pete Schuler was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week after leading the Flashes to three victories March 12-15, including two wins over Power Five opponent Northwestern, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Schuler exploded offensively, hitting at a .727 clip with a 1.455 slugging percentage and a .733 on-base percentage.
In three games, Schuler collected eight hits, six RBIs and six runs scored, including two doubles, two home runs and three walks. The senior is on a five-game hitting streak dating back to March 9, recording multi-hit games in the last four. He was also perfect on the field this week, starting all three games at first base and tallying 20 put outs and two assists.
On Tuesday, Schuler went 2-for-3 at the plate against Youngstown State with 3 RBIs and a run scored on a double and two walks. The senior sparked Kent State's 10-run scoring spree, knocking in the first runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run double scorched into right-center field. He added his third RBI on just his second swing with a single an inning later.
Schuler was an offensive juggernaut in a double header against Northwestern Friday afternoon, going 6-for-8 on the day with two home runs and a double. The Pleasant Prairie, Wis. native also totaled five runs scored and three RBIs.
In the first game, Schuler was just a triple away from hitting for the cycle as he went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Leading off the bottom of the first inning with a two-out double to left center, he again sparked the Kent State offense and crossed the plate first for the Flashes. He picked up a single an inning later to continue a six-run rally and ripped a solo-home run opposite field in the fourth.
In the night cap, Schuler kept the offensive fire alive, pulling a two-out home run over the wall in right-center field in the bottom of the first inning. He drew a walk to load the bases and eventually scored in the third, and recorded a sacrifice fly in the sixth. He rounded out the week going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs, and a walk.
Next up, the Flashes will be on the road for a midweek matchup at Pitt on Wednesday, March 20 at 3:00 p.m.
