
Flashes Falter in Day One of Wildcat Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – Kent State (6-8) fell twice to nationally ranked competition at the Wildcat Invitation on Friday in Tucson. The Flashes fell to #23 Minnesota (9-5) 12-1 and #12 Arizona (11-5) 10-0.
Game 1: #23 Minnesota 12, Kent State 1 (6 innings)
The Gophers used the long ball to produce the majority of its offense, as they hit five long balls against Kent State pitching.
In the first inning Minnesota hit a two-run shot and then in the second scored a single tally on a two-out double.
Kent State scored its only run in the bottom of the second. Hunter Brancifort got on base with a two-out hit by pitch and then Alexis Taube singled. Maria Cegledy drove in the run with a soft serve base knock to center to bring Kent State within two. Brancifort is now the career leader in program history with 28 hit by pitches.
Minnesota then poured on four runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth inning.
Andrea Scali (6-2) went five innings and allowed five earned runs and struck out nine. She fanned the side in order in the fourth and retired a game-high seven in a row.
Game 2: #12 Arizona 10, Kent State 0 (5 innings)
Arizona scored first and put up two runs in the first inning aided by two walks and scored another in the second to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Huck worked a clean third inning before the Wildcats exploded for seven runs in the fourth and hit two home runs. The Wildcats are fifth in the country in home runs and hit both to right.
Kent State's only hit was a single to center by Carlee Selle in the fourth inning.
Madi Huck (0-5) threw five innings for Kent State and allowed nine earned runs with four walks. Gina Snyder (1-0) earned the win for Arizona in her first start of the year and struck out seven. Arizona outhit KSU, 12-1.
