Brownfield Doubles Four Times in Doubleheader Split

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Kent State's (12-17) Bailey Brownfield smacked four doubles and drove in three runs while pitchers Madi Huck and Andrea Scali combined for a one-hitter in the Golden Flashes doubleheader split on Wednesday against Lehigh (10-15). The Golden Flashes won the nightcap 5-0, but fell in game one, 5-2.
"It was good to win game two and earn the split, said Kent State head coach Eric Oakley, "Overall, we had a good trip and won three out of four games and hit the ball well."
Brownfield hit two doubles in each game and has moved up to fifth all-time in career doubles (38) at KSU and is tied with Kim Henzler (1990-93) and Jessica Carmichael (2008-11). Last season her 13 doubles were the ninth most in a single-season in program history. She already has tallied 11 this year. She has recorded 179 career-hits which is tied for eighth all-time in school history with Lisa Veneziano (1990-93) and Carmichael.
The Kent State arms of Huck and Scali were stellar in the nightcap and held the Mountain Hawks to one hit. The only hit was an infield single that bounced off the third base bag. Scali entered out of the bullpen and struck out eight of the nine batters she faced with the other being a pop out to third in foul ground.
Megan Turner hit her first career homer in game two to put Kent State up by three before Brownfield sent another run home on a double and Maria Cegledy was plated on an error.

The Golden Flashes host their home-opener later this week on Friday, March 29 at 3 p.m. against Ball State. The second MAC series of the season concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30 beginning at 1 p.m.
