KENT, Ohio – The Kent State softball team (18-20, 8-4 MAC were defeated two times by Miami (23-14, 8-4 MAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Diamond at Dix. Miami won the first game of the day 4-3 in a marathon 14 inning affair. The RedHawks won in run rule fashion 16-3 in the nightcap.

Game 1: Miami 4, Kent State 3

With Kent State, down by one in the fifth inning, Bailey Brownfield homer to center to tie the game, but Miami scored another run in the top of the seventh and carried a two-run lead into the bottom of the seventh. Kent State was down to its final strike when Maria Cegledy blasted a solo homer to center to send the game to extras.

The RedHawks scored another in the eighth and then Jen Cader led off the home half of the inning with a solo homer to left center that hit the scoreboard.

Neither team could score despite having chances until the 14th when Miami pushed across the winning run on a two out single to left.

Andrea Scali was the tough luck loser (13-7) and pitched nine innings out of the bullpen. She struck out six and walked two. Madi Huck tossed the first five innings and allowed just one earned run.

Brianna Pratt (11-6) threw 9.1 scoreless innings for Miami.

Megan Turner had a four-hit game and was 4-for-7.

Game 2: Miami 16, Kent State 3 (5 innings)

The RedHawks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Turner smashed her second collegiate homer with a solo shot to right. Sabrina Kerschner registered her first career hit with a two RBI single down the left field line.
