
Rooney Earns National Academic Honor

Kent State redshirt junior Tim Rooney (Columbus, Ohio) was named a 2019 Scholar All-American Friday by The National Wrestling Coaches Association. Rooney claimed the unique honor for the second straight season.
An exercise science major, Rooney carries a 3.83 grade point average. He placed third in the 133-pound bracket at the 2019 MAC Championships. His finish in one of the conference's toughest weight classes earned a qualifying spot at the NCAA Championships.
Rooney finished second on the team with 24 victories this past season and won a 133-pound title at the Cougar Clash. He has also earned Academic All-MAC honors in three straight seasons and was named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week this past season.
For individuals to earn Scholar All-American honors, they must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, been an NCAA qualifier and won 60 percent of his total schedule, or have been an NCAA All-American with at least a 3.0 GPA.
